“Friends of Coconut” a helping hand to coconut farmer of the district
The absence of coconut pluckers is the major hindrance in the timely harvest and application of plant protection measures faced by the coconut farmers of the district. KVK trained 422 rural youths sponsored by the Coconut Development Board (CDB) on scientific management of coconut and mechanized coconut climbing. Mr Sumesh, one of the trainee is regularly going for coconut tree climbing. On average, he can climb 40 palms per day, and his daily income is around Rs 2000, apart from being an insurance agent. He also does crown cleaning and applies plant protection chemicals scientifically using the technical expertise of KVK. The service of Mr Sumesh is a blessing to coconut farmers, but he is struggling hard to meet the demand of farmers.
