Union Minister of State for Agricultural Development
and Farmers' Welfare, Sushri Shobha
Karandlaje visited ICAR-KVK, Pathanamthitta on 7th July 2022. During
her visit to KVK, she inaugurated the Workshop on “Climate Smart Agriculture”,
which was participated by more than 100 farmers and district officials from
various line departments. In her inaugural address she stated that
opportunities for earning additional income should be exploited through timely
export of agricultural products by making best use of the various schemes being
formulated and implemented by the Central Government. Food processing
activities should be expanded through sustainable marketing strategies and by utilizing
innovative opportunities in value addition. The minister also said that the
export possibilities of widely grown fruits like jackfruit and rambutan, should
be explored. On the occasion, “Sanjeevini
Kit”, a kit comprising of 7 organic inputs for household vegetable
cultivation and a booklet on “Plant
propogation Techniques” were also released. The Minister visited the State
Resource Center for Jackfruit, marketing outlets, laboratories and
demonstration units of KVK. As part of the programme Exhibitions on products of
Entrepreneurs under the project “Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture
(ARYA) and activities of KVK’s project for empowerment of Special children were
also displayed. Rev. Moncee Varghese, Director, CARD, Dr. Jayashree Krishnankutty,
Director of Extension, Kerala Agricultural University and Dr. C.P. Robert,
Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Pathanamthitta also spoke on the occasion.
